Theory and Nursing Research

Examine connections among theory and nursing research.

Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is for you to understand how theoretical frameworks relate to and support nursing research and ultimately shape clinical practice and improve patient care.

After completion of this assignment you will be able to apply a theoretical framework to a clinical research problem.
Instructions:
You will create a brief (no more than 10 slides) presentation containing the following information:
1. Identify a clinical problem/topic that interests you or that you experience in your nursing practice.

2. Choose and present a theory (either grand theory or middle range theory) that would support and provide a framework to address the problem/topic.

3. Briefly discuss the theorist who created the theory and the history of how it was developed.

4. Present an example of how this theory has been used in nursing research.

The presentation should include:
Introductory slide (title, your name,).
Brief speaker notes for each slide.
Bullet points, colorful graphs and/or schematics.
Reference slide with 3-5 scholarly references.
Minimum Submission Requirements

This Assessment should be a Microsoft Word (minimum 350 words) document, in addition to the title and reference pages.
Respond to the questions in a thorough manner, providing specific examples of concepts, topics, definitions, and other elements asked for in the questions. Your paper should be highly organized, logical, and focused.
Your paper must be written in Standard English and demonstrate exceptional content, organization, style, and grammar and mechanics.
Your paper should provide a clearly established and sustained viewpoint and purpose.
Your writing should be well ordered, logical and unified, as well as original and insightful.
A separate page at the end of your research paper should contain a list of references, in APA format. Use your textbook, the Library, and the internet for research.
Be sure to cite both in-text and reference list citations were appropriate and reference all sources. Your sources and content should follow proper APA citation style. Review the APA formatting and citation style found in the Writing Center. To access the Writing Center, select this link. (It should include a cover sheet, paper is double spaced, in Times New Roman 12-point font, correct citations, Standard English with no spelling or punctuation errors, and correct references at the bottom of the last page.)
If work submitted for this competency assessment does not meet the minimum submission requirements, it will be returned without being scored.

Thank you for this presentation on Roy’s support of Burnout in the ER. You are off to a good start.
I invite you to include some colorful clip art for visual appeal. I’d like you to expand a bit more to explore the burnout issues with some scholarly support and citations in the speaker notes. You will need to cite Roy’s theory in the notes also.

One aspect of the assessment is to align with a specific example in nursing research that supports this. You will need to find a study/research that addresses Roy’s support to tie this together. Your reference list has items that are not cited in your work. Expand on your thoughts in the speaker notes, as if you were giving this presentation to colleagues, and the speaker notes contained the information that you were going to relay to audience. Good information, just needs some more development.
