Quality Assurance Program

Case #1

You are a MTM provider (clinical pharmacist, ARNP, PA, RN) and to start a new pharmacotherapy MTM service in a large Specialty Pulmonology Medical Practice. Since you are a destination, tertiary, referral facility and service referral patients from the entire southwestern United States, you see patients 1-2 times per year or will only see them once to troubleshoot especially difficult drug problems the physicians are either unable to solve or to rule out whether medications are contributory to the patient’s medical issues at all. Your facility is affiliated with a hospital that performs lung transplants and you will be involved with patient education pre and post transplant regarding medications with some monitoring activities post transplant. What possibilities exist as to development of quality assurance programs in your practice and how would these be implemented?

Case #2 You are a (clinical pharmacist, ARNP, PA, RN) and to start a new monitoring MTM service in a large local Pulmonology Medical Practice. Your medical practice services a large metropolitan area, named “Metroppollis”, with a population of two million. You are interested in improving the employee health and lowering direct and indirect medical costs of two large, self-insured employers: The Daily Eco-Planet and Kryptonite Earth, Inc. These large employers are contracted with your medical clinic and MTM service to produce better medical outcomes for their employees and to lower employer medical costs. The Daily Eco-Planet exposes its employees to wood and ink products in the printing of newspapers causing increased asthma symptoms in its employee population. What possibilities exist as to development of quality assurance programs in your practice and how would these be implemented?
