After you have completed the Reading, and watched the videos on moral development and sex role development on pages 261 and 307, post your initial response to the following statements.
- Outline the different aspects of the development of self-concept as they relate to middle childhood through early adolescence. Support your answer with examples of how this development is impacted by gender, race, and culture.
- In the video on moral development, you saw four children who were asked a question related to a moral dilemma. Determine which stage of moral development the four children in the video would be in according to Piaget and Kohlberg. Compare the concepts related to the different stages that are discussed among the two theorists.
- Using information from the video on sex role development, and from the text, conclude how environmental influences, such as parents, peers, and society influence sex role development. In your answer, be sure to include characteristics of different theories related to this part of development, including cognitive-developmental theories, gender schema theories, Freud’s Psychoanalytic Theory, and Social Learning Theories
