Relevant examples of modern applications / industry that utilize symmetric cryptography

Why does symmetric cryptography work best for these applications?

The paper must be a minimum of 10 pages, minimum 1250 words, Times New Roman, 12-point font, double-spaced. APA formatting must be followed (cover page, abstract, headers, page numbers, citations, references). You must use your own words and properly cite and reference all sources used. SafeAssign is used.
