Working out, gardening, trying to distract myself from the coffee cravings, they don’t last long, I am also finding myself saying, just have the bloody coffee, nothing bad will happen, so there is temptation there.
- Discuss your feelings and reactions during this time period, especially focusing on times you “lapse” or experience temptation. I have lapsed, I had Cuban coffee this morning and I feel great, but I am going to stop again tomorrow.
- It is especially important to indicate times when it was both difficult and easy to abstain, as well as those specific circumstances during which you “slipped” (birthdays, holidays, and weekends seem especially difficult). Luckily, coffee isn’t really a birthday or going out drink. However, the coffee shop has always been a hangout for me, socially and academically.
- Each week address what stages of change you identify with and the rationale for it. I find the 12 steps to be antiquated and hard to relate to as I don’t believe in the conventional Christian God. But I have accepted that temptation is there and that voice in the back of your head like to talk loudly about how you, just this once, can cheat.
