Every so often, a ranking of presidents is compiled by leading historians and scholars. Most people have their top 2 or 3 favorites. Some may have a top 5. Far fewer think about the worst presidents in U.S. history. While this course has not discussed every U.S. president in detail, it has covered the entire width of United States history and touched on the major political issues of every era. You have learned enough to make an intelligent argument about whom you think are the 5 worst presidents in American history.
In your thread, first provide a basic list, 5 to 1, (with 1 being the worst) of the presidents in your bottom 5. Then, in 100–150 words per president, state why each man has made your list. You have a very limited amount of space, so think carefully. The point here is to critically assess what really matters in American politics and to make a reasoned argument in a small space.
The discussions are meant to foster a spirit of community and collegiality, but you must also view these as academic assignments with formal requirements. Students will write a discussion post in response to questions posed throughout this course.
