o Scenario: A two‐hospital nonprofit system has been owned by a Catholic
order of nuns for 77 years and is undergoing an acquisition by a large for a
for‐profit entity. The nonprofit system has been losing millions of dollars
annually for the past five years. The task of the for‐profit system is to
integrate the nonprofit system into the standards and best practices
followed by the for‐profit system’s more than 70 hospitals. In addition, the
shareholder‐owned organization must make the nonprofit system
financially stable. The first task is to rebrand the organization and
assimilate the physicians, employees, and volunteers into the new system.
