1.According to Professor Daniel Wan, being a fan meets a certain basic human need of belonging. He also states that fandom provides a built in community and in return, the community is able to boost the wellbeing of the fan. To illustrate Professor Wan’s point, we watched the movie Miracle where the role of the fan was analyzed in order to understand the importance of the connection of the fans to the 1980 Men’s Olympic Ice Hockey Team. Providing evidence from the film, as well as one or more real-life examples ripped from the headlines, explain a time similar to what we witnessed in the film Miracle, where the fans watching the sporting event viewed it as more than just an athletic contest and why the fans needed the win.
