Individual Project

3–4-page report written in Word

ou have been asked by Redline Motors & Equipment, a local motor and performance parts company, to install a network in its new office. The corporate office use to be located within the warehouse, and a small office was leased in a remote location. Due to the lease being up on their remote location, and space being limited and cramped in the warehouse, the company built a 3 story corporate office. Some specifications for their new office and warehouse include:

  • 50 computers and 7 printers in the corporate building for their sales and other representatives including management
    • There are a total of 10 offices located throughout the corporate building
  • 10 laptops are used throughout the warehouse with 3 printers spread throughout the building (the warehouse is located on the opposite end of a parking lot from the corporate office) Communication is needed between the warehouse and the main 3 story office building. TIP: Think fiber optic between buildings and why?

Security should be taken into consideration based on the fact that customer information and their payment methods will be in the computer systems. At this point in time Redline is not concerned about software or upgrades, they have a system in place they like and are going to expand that

Write a 3–4-page report detailing your network design that includes the following:

  • What type of network architecture/model or topology would you recommend? LAN, WAN or a combination of both.
  • What end devices would you recommend using and why?
  • What network media would you recommend using and why?
  • What other network designs are not the best solution and why? (E.g., bus, ring, etc.).
  • How is your network design scalable should Redline decide to expand in the future ?
  • Be sure to explain the advantages and disadvantages of the network model(s) that you recommended.

Sources of Instructional Material

The easiest way to incorporate technology is to use existing materials. Locating and selecting instructional materials involves determining your needs, checking a variety of sources, previewing and trying the materials and finally making your selection.

Consider the “Education Websites with Instructional Materials” chart (Figure 8-3 in Chapter 8 of our text) and the websites below:

Identify a variety of instructional materials that could be used to teach a specific content lesson. Once you have made your selections, evaluate them using the evaluation forms provided within Appendix D of our text. In your discussion post, share the evaluation results and discuss which criteria you think is the most important to consider when selecting instructional materials. Why? Make sure to identify the specific content lesson.

Locate a website that contains a lesson that is similar to the lesson you are creating for your final project.  Examine how the lesson used instructional materials for teaching and learning. Post the link in the Discussion Forum with the following information:

  • Are there learning activities or ideas that you can integrate into your own lesson?
  • What useful websites, tools or resources might you be able to use or modify? How would you rework them to better fit your lesson?

The lesson that I am creating is on the  ecology, habitation, environment of the seals in Alaska

Acct-6 questions

Q1

In some companies, especially the larger ones, the finance function is undertaken by the vice president of finance. In other companies, small to medium, there are other functionaries, such as the chief financial officer, finance manager, and so on. Do not get caught up with titles! Discuss the role of the finance manager and why the position is important. Go to www.accountingtoday.com. Summarize at least one article you have read, provide the web link, and justify the importance of the article you selected. Please select an article from the  accountingtoday.com web site and share a brief synopsis of the article (including link) with the class. Please be sure to contribute your own thoughts regarding the role of the finance manager as mentioned in the article. Also, please read other students posts before posting your own. The minimum initial discussion post should be substantial and at least 100 words. Thanks!

Q2

Chapter one of the Financial Management text describes five principles of finance that form the basis of financial management for businesses. Let’s discuss each one of these principles and provide examples that relate to financial management decision making in business today.

Q3

Visit the website CPA Vision for research to answer the following.

Explain the CPA Vision Project in your own words. Please keep your posts down to around a paragraph at most. This is a conversation and not an essay area. Stay away from merely agreeing with another classmate, and add some additional information to your comments to bolster your opinion.

What is meant by “moving up the economic value chain,” and how are CPAs going to accomplish this?

After we have established an understanding of the overall view of the auditing profession, we will move quickly into a discussion of the various regulatory influences the CPA auditor is subject to, how they affect the profession, and under what conditions an auditor will depart from issuing an unqualified report.

Q4

Accounting went through many revolutionary events over the past 500+ years. Please share with us your thinking about the accounting challenges and opportunities in coming 10 years. Can you please tell us one or two examples of areas that the CPAs need to gain more knowledge to meet the future challenges.

Q5

Describe the information included in the introductory, scope, and opinion paragraphs in a separate audit report on the effectiveness of internal control over financial reporting. What is the nature of the additional paragraphs in the audit report?

Q6

The ASB recently issued the Super SAS #122 [805 pages] to supersede the entire auditing standards and converge with the International Auditing and Assurance Standards. In this new statement, the ASB required the addition of new paragraphs/titles to the standard audit report such as; Management’s Responsibility, Auditor’s Responsibility, Basis for Qualified Opinion, report on other Legal and Regulatory Requirements. Do you think this new language of the audit reports will add value to the audit reports?

Staffing Decisions

DQ#4: Staffing Decisions

Hiring for any open positions can be a challenge. Factors that impact the hiring process include candidate availability, internal candidate interest and availability, market conditions, and time limit. These and other factors must be considered when designing a hiring process appropriate for international endeavors.

Banks industries need to hire staff for its international operations. Specifically, you need to recruit for a team manager, a director of finance, and an international team coordinator. All are highly specialized positions that require at least ten years’ experience, including international experience, and are highly compensated. Because these can be difficult positions to fill, one option is the use of external recruiting services. Another idea is to recruit from within the existing companies. You are going to talk to your boss about it.

Based on the scenario, respond to the following, supporting your statements with scholarly references:

  • Your boss does not want to outsource recruitment to external intermediaries. Present your boss with the advantages and disadvantages of using a recruiting service for this project.
  • Your boss is also concerned that he doesn’t know enough about internal candidates to support promoting from within. Present him with a basic plan that would help objectively establish internal interest and identify internal talent in relation to the open positions.

Here are some additional questions to consider when drafting your responses this week:

What are some effective ways of identifying leadership potential?
What are some effective ways of developing leadership skills?
What skill sets are required of a leader expected to operate internationally?

Thank you,

Human Resource Management

In 1999, a Seattle man took a popular soft-drink company seriously when one of its commercials made an offer of a Harrier jet, the famous high-tech jump jet used by the U.S. Marines. In a television commercial that aired in 1995, the company jokingly included the Harrier as one of the prizes that could be received with a mere 7 million company points. Although that sounds like a lot of points to get from drinking the soft drink company’s products (roughly 190 drinks a day for 100 years), the company also allowed customers to purchase points for 10 cents each.

The man did the math and discovered that the cost of the 7 million points needed for the jet was $700,000. He then put together a business plan, raised the $700,000 from friends and family, and submitted 15 points, the check, and an official order form with a demand for the Harrier jet.

The company wrote back, stating that the Harrier jet in the commercial was simply used to create a humorous and entertaining advertisement. They apologized for any misunderstanding or confusion people may have experienced and enclosed some free product coupons.

The free coupons did not satisfy the man, who then took the soft drink company to court. Finally, a federal judge for the Southern District of New York held that the company was only joking when it implied in its ad that it was giving away fighter jets. The judge noted that because the jets sell for approximately $23 million, no one could have concluded that the commercial actually offered consumers a Harrier jet. Instead, this was a classic example of a deal that was too good to be true.

Write a paper of 4–6 body pages that answers the following questions, including an in-depth explanation of the supporting rationale:

  • What are the key legal factors present in the scenario?
  • What are the 4 elements of a valid contract? How do they relate to the scenario in question?
  • What is the objective theory of contracts?
  • How does the objective theory of contracts apply to this case?
  • In your own words but based on research and analysis of relevant legal concepts and cases, why do you think the court held that there was not a valid agreement in this scenario? Provide support for your position.
  • Are advertisements generally considered offers? Explain.
  • How does this case differ from a reward situation in which a unilateral contract is formed upon completion of the requested act?
  • What recommendations (at least 2) would you make for a company considering an aggressive marketing campaign with giveaways of high value items? Explain the rationale behind each recommendation.

Your submitted assignment (200 points) must include a Word document of 4–6 body pages that contains your answers to the questions listed and a reference list of any sources that you used within your paper (cited properly in APA format).
